What to expect
Edinburgh's Hogmanay is one of the best-known New Year celebrations in the world, with events around the city centre and fireworks over the castle at midnight. Some events need tickets, and city-centre streets are closed off on the night.
The most useful thing is to be able to walk home after midnight, when taxis are scarce and queues are long.
